City4Climate Showcased at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona

On November 4th, 2025, the City4Climate project took center stage at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, where partners presented the progress and vision of the project during a dedicated round table session. The presentation was also featured throughout the event in a dedicated booth, giving attendees the chance to explore the project’s innovative approach to digital climate governance.

A Vision for Smarter, Greener Cities

City4Climate aims to strengthen the role of cities in climate governance by harnessing the power of Digital Twins. The project aligns closely with the EU Cities Mission and the National Strategy for Smart Territories, helping urban areas accelerate their transition to climate neutrality. By integrating data, models, and simulations, City4Climate supports informed decision-making and fosters a holistic understanding of urban dynamics.

From Architecture to Action

During the session, the consortium presented the City4Climate system architecture—a modular, scalable, and standards-based framework built on NGSI-LD, FIWARE, and Smart Data Models. This architecture enables seamless integration with municipal platforms and urban systems, ensuring interoperability and flexibility.

The discussion also highlighted the ongoing work around Climate City Contracts (CCC) in Porto, Lisbon, and Guimarães, including the mapping of governance workflows, key performance indicators, and the CCCs’ pivotal role in guiding city-level decarbonization strategies.

Looking Ahead

The project’s next phase will introduce real-time dashboards, open-source Digital Twin tools, and strategic recommendations to foster replication across European cities. By combining technological innovation with governance transformation, City4Climate seeks to contribute meaningfully to the European Green Deal and the digital transition.
